Joseph Olsson is a 17 year old boy, living in a small town with his father. He attends Ridgewell High, where he takes his frustrations out on kids to help him get through the pain his father puts him through by pushing his beliefs and religion onto him. He abuses him. He can't remember the last time he was happy or even the last time he smiled and for it to be real, but things change when Elias Greene comes into his life.

Elias Greene is a 16 year old boy, who just moved to Ridgewell with his unstable father, who's an alcoholic. They moved to Ridgewell for hopefully a fresh start for Elias, whose life went downhill when he attempted suicide because of his mothers passing. Things seem to look up when he meets some people who bring the hope and excitement back into his life and when he meets Joseph Olsson and sees how unhappy he is, it reminds him of himself and he wants to save him but it's harder than he thought when he sees just how damaged he is.
