In a world where cats have evolved to towns, cities, structures and inventions, the leader of Shadowclan, Badgerstar, is the one destined to a prophecy. This prophecy is said to speak of one who will bring demise to the clans. Of course, everyone is terrified. Thunderclan kidnaps Badgerstar and establishes a war between them and Shadowclan. Badgerstar is feeling very betrayed by his ansestors and determined to prove that he's a good cat. But is he really? The answer is seeked by many as mysterious beings seem to bring bad fortune to anyone opposing Badgerstar.

As Wolfkit struggles with her ability, Frostkit has trouble with OutClan, seeing she has been gifted with supreme hunting and fighting skills. Both the she-cats go through hardships and battle having the temptation of mates as young apprentices, one far worse than the other.
