Sixteen-year-old Anna Clark's summer is turning out to be horrible. She has to put up with her annoyingly crazy little brother and her workaholic mother.

Seventeen-year-old Cameron Carter has the perfect life. Good grades, amazing friends and basketball teammates, loving parents and an awesome little brother. But he's really smart. And he's tired of hiding that part of him just to please his family.

The two troubled teenagers meet at a small park and soon find that they live almost right across from each other.

Anna and Cameron spend time together and slowly, they become the best of friends. The only problem is when they both begin to catch feelings - for each other. Cam doesn't want to lose her so he thinks it's best if he never tells her, and Anna is scared to let someone in.

They soon start to date, and everything is wonderful. But time apart threatens to break their relationship. So they break it first. Slowly, Anna and Cameron drift back into "friendship." But it doesn't work that way, does it?

When they start school again after their break, Cameron meets the new girl at his school, Lila Johnson. He takes a liking to her, unaware that Lila is using him to become more popular. But Anna sees through Lila's act and is set on protecting Cameron from heartbreak.

Or maybe she's just trying to protect herself.
