Disclaimer: you cannot say Hermaphroditus is they and not he, when we're taking the Ovid's version, because referring to Hermaphroditus as "she" or even "them", would be respecting Salmacis. Yeah, that lazy rapey horrible nymph.
I would rather misgender the rapist and use the correct pronoun for the victim than misgender the victim and use the correct pronoun for the rapist ANY DAY because he had enough.
