Cautiously, Toulouse took off with a well-paced trot, Petyr in tow. They reached the boundary of the small river in no time and Felicie pulled back on the reins, eyeing the gap between one side to the other. Easily crossed. Perfect.

Petyr approached alongside her and cast her a dubious glance. "Fel. Don't even think about it. Your father will have my head."

The young princess scoffed and guided her horse back a few good paces, casting a quick glance back toward the guard towers.

"He would never do such a thing to you, Pet. It will be me and me alone who receives punishment for this. Do not worry, I'll be back before sun down."

Her lips pulled up at the corners, ever so slightly, as she dug her heels into Toulouse's flank and tucked her knees in for grip. The steed darted forward and leaped over the river, breaking into a fast-paced gallop toward the distant forest and mountain side. She could hear Petyrs enraged expletives, the shouts of soldiers and the deep ring of a bell being struck before the trees engulfed both her and Toulouse, shielding them from view of the castle. Oh, to be as free as she was.
