As time went by, Gaston became increasingly distant and abusive towards Imee. He would belittle her and criticize her for her inability to bear children, and often turned to physical violence to release his frustration. She clung to the vows they had made to each other on their wedding day, hoping that they would eventually be able to work through their issues and start a family.
