"Roman!"
And when she yells my name like she used to many months ago, I remember.
I remember the pain, the confusion. Everything was blurry when I found out. My mom had broken the news to me during her visit to the hospital that she had me trapped in for a long and exhausting six months. I can recall how I didn't cry at first. My mind stopped thinking. I was in a state of shock. After I broke out of that, all hell broke loose. I actually had to be sedated.
Over everything though, I remember the anger. Toward Mara, my parents, everyone.
When our late night calls ended. Secret meetups stopped. The walks through the forest with her turned into walking the same paths alone. On the night of May 6th, I thought I'd be doing everything alone.
Finally, I spit it out. "Then you died."
But never left, did you Mara?
