I wanted to write a story that does not flinch away from that reality. I also wanted to write a story about what comes after. About the moment a person realizes the cage they were forced into is not the end of their story. About the slow return of self. About finding strength in places where only numbness lived. About reclaiming a life that was taken. This book may be difficult at times. It was difficult to write. But I hope, in the end, it is not the darkness you remember, but the rising. To those who have been hurt, controlled, belittled, broken, or silenced- this story is for you.
