"Her words had hurt me. They had opened a hole in my chest, and I had tried everything, to fill it.
And now, as I hug her tight, as I feel all the accumulated hatred melt into her white hair, I realize that what I needed to fill my emptiness was the thing that opened it.
It's funny. We always talk about mending hearts we didn't break.
In my case, she was the knife against my skin.
And now, she's stitching me back together.
I think of all this as her hands are in my hair, her tears bathing my shoulder.
I hold her close to me, maybe because I don't want to see her go away, or maybe because I am afraid she will stab me again and I will let it happen."
