Kim nodded slowly and gave Tae's shoulder a gentle squeeze, and said, "don't beat yourself up about it. I'm 93% sure he survived. And if not, you could consider it mercy." He flashes a tiny smile when Tae grimaces at that. "What I mean by that is, the world is dangerous. If it hadn't been you, it would've been that boy."

They both turn to look at the boy in question, battered and buried beneath rubble.

Infected, and dead.

His shattered and bent eyeglasses sat not a foot away from where his hand lay scraped and bloody, index finger twitching just slightly.

Wordlessly Kim steps forward and gently scoops up the frames, eyeing them with a sad expression that didn't match the twinkle in his chartreuse eyes. He then glances at Tae and gives his head a slight shake. "You should keep it, in remembrance of a classmate."

TaeHyung frowned and huffed, turning his head away. "And do what with them?"

Kim shrugged. "Maybe return them to his family? It'll be all they have left of him soon."

That confused TaeHyung and he turned to watch Kim as he placed the frames into TaeHyung's utility case. "What do you mean? Are you planning to blow the place up?"

"Oh, I don't have to," Kim responded, zipping up Tae's jacket and patting his chest. "There's a fire starting somewhere in this building, and it's growing as we speak. Faster than I or any other man would be able to stop."

TaeHyung watched wordlessly as Kim gave the kid one last sorrowful shake of his head before gently slapping Tae on the back and leading him out of the room, where the smell of smoke was more potent.
