A modernized retelling of the last few books of the Iliad. History's classic war story, which is actually a love story. How deep goes grief run, and what do we leave behind after we're gone? The tragic tale of Achilles' rage and loss, the great warrior and his greater fall, comes together in this nostalgic, bittersweet tale.

Content Warning: grotesque violence throughout out, grief discussed at length, extended battle scenes with high levels of carnage, sexual assualt discussed. Brief sexuality, characters are stated to have had sex, nothing shown on page. Characters kiss on page. Some crude dialogue regarding a character's sexuality. Afterlife has become interesting: Neoptolemus is bonding with his father, Briseis has found them and both Achilles and Patroclus are loved and respected. The years pass by and Neoptolemus is growing to be a kind young man, like the one his father once was when he was his age. He even grows to like Patroclus and consider him as a father, or at least this is what Patroclus thinks. Achilles realises their closeness and is concerned about his son's actions with his partner. Things become more complicated when Neoptolemus's mother, Deidamia, dies and joins the afterlife, seeking a closer relationship with the father of her child. Achilles and Patroclus grow distant, but how will that affect their powerful relationship? This paintball war is about to get epic. This book is basically an Iliad AU where it's a paintball war. So, consider this therapy for reading Song of Achilles, you're welcome. Nobody dies, it's all good fun. If you're not here to have fun then find another story. The character names are changed, but most of the major characters show up if you're looking. I realize this is not how paintball tournaments work and I don't care, it's an Iliad AU, not an accurate look at the world of paintball. Trigger/Content warnings: some profanity, teenage level crude humor, some teenage sexuality, teenagers kiss on page that's it, some brief family problems discussed, a character has amnesia and the accident causing it is discussed. A character has a prosthetic limb, this is discusssed. Some violence towards animals in that the characters hunt.
