مقوله «طبقه» یک کشف علم مارکسیستی نیست. قبل از مارکس نیز دانشمندان و مورخین و جامعه‌شناسان دیگری به وجود «طبقات» در جامعه و تقسیم افراد و انسان‌ها به این گروه‌های اجتماعی پی برده بودند و پیرامون ماهیت و نقش این یا آن طبقه بررسی‌ها و کشفیاتی صورت گرفته بود. این‌که برخی ایدئولوگ‌های بورژوايی و به دنبال آن‌ها دستگاه تبلیعاتی کنونی ایران با به کار بردن عبارت «طرفداران عقل طبقاتی» در مورد مارکسیست‌ها، می‌خواهند اعتقاد به وجود طبقات اجتماعی را تنها به مارکسیست‌ها نسبت دهند تنها گواه بر جهل و کوته‌اندیشی آن‌ها است.
