Laura Hemmings has never experienced intimate relationships. No one in her family really loves hugs, her friendships are inconsistent, and the closest contact she's had with a boy is the one time Liam Day high-fived her in ninth grade.
She's clever and witty, but she keeps to herself. She feels disconnected to the people around her, and, figuring she's the common denominator, she is content with her subdued, slightly lonely life.

Liam Day is about as extroverted as they come. His favorite thing to do is make people laugh, and when he isn't wearing his class clown crown, he's planning trips and adventures and parties for his friends. He drags his brother Eli to all his events, and rarely is he seen alone.
He can tell his life is missing an aspect of ... something, but what that something is, he couldn't tell you. All he knows is that when he's around people, he forgets to listen to the constant mess in his head. And so he makes sure he's around people.
A lot.

Laura and Liam have both flown in merging circles over their high school years, but when senior year puts them both in a new class that forces them to get to know each other on much deeper levels, they start to wonder if that missing piece in their lives isn't so out of reach after all.
It's the first day of June's senior year and everything is already going wrong.
Her first boyfriend and supposedly love of her life dumps her for someone else, her heart is broken and feels like it won't ever heal again and her best friend makes her join the most unnecessary club on earth to help her find new friends she most definitely does not need.
Still.
New chances are for new beginnings, right?
Instead of falling into a deep dark pit of self pity (however tempting that may sound), all of this betrayal ends up leading her to the best friends she's ever had and the most exciting school year of her life.
Oh - and a whole new fake boyfriend, to get some revenge on that idiot who dumped her. And who knows. Maybe even more.
