13 year old Paisley Baron has a wonderful life in Nova Scotia Canada until a freak accident her father dies. Unfortunately her father was the only one that cared for her and her baby brother while her mother doesn't do anything but eat and sleep all day everyday. Once her father dies her mother starts to abuse them and starts to smoke. Paisley has to deal with this until her and her brother get taken away by foster care and are put in a foster home in Mississauga in Ontario and she meets some special.
