Wilbur stared at the painting, trying desperately to figure out what was wrong with it. There was something missing, he was sure of it. But what?
He'd always hated this particular painting. It was of the royal family before the queen died and before Tommy was born. They all looked so happy in it, grinning at the artist, eye's sparkling with joy.
But it had always bugged Wilbur. That empty space beside him. As if there was supposed to be another person, but Wilbur could never recall who. And his own eyes in the picture weren't looking forward, rather to the side, at the empty space.
Wilbur felt a shiver run down his spine. It was unnatural. And it made him sad, seeing how they were before.
He sighed and turned his back on the painting. There was something very wrong with it, and he could never figure out what.

"Did you know what the stars replied?" "W-what?" It was almost as if he lost his voice for a moment. I smiled. "Go after him." I softly cupped his cheeks, with tears forming in my eyes. "But I told them, Just like the stars, you are far from my reach. Everyone looks up to see you. You're a twinkling wonder I wish to touch but I couldn't. Tommy had just recently moved homes. The one he left was one full of memories. Not good ones, but not necessarily bad ones, either. He didn't have much to live for at his old home, so he moved in hope of starting over and meeting new people. He had no more family, and his school friends had long moved on from him. In fact, the only number in his contacts was his mum's who was long passed away. Tommy was young (sixteen, to be exact) and he often forgot things. Usually just as simple as forgetting to do the laundry, or forgetting to reply to a notification on his phone that he received three seconds prior. Simple things that didn't matter. This time, though, he forgot to charge his phone before leaving his new, barely furnished apartment. He didn't think much of it. If it died, it died. No biggie, right? He figured he'd be alright for an hour or so without his phone. That is, until he got lost in the large, unfamiliar town that he definitely didn't even slightly know the layout of. He didn't know where he was or how to get back to his apartment, especially without a GPS. And then, when it definitely couldn't get worse, it began to rain. Tommy was soaked. He was cold, hungry. He cut into an alley and sat down against a brick wall, curled up on himself. He sat there for a while, and then heard footsteps. It was three men. The older one crouched down in front of him. "You look awful...Come with us, mate." But Tommy didn't want to. Technically he should be screaming- any other mortal would when met with a huge being with boar features, royally dressed and adorned with enough weapons to dice a human into a grain of rice. But Tommy wasn't scared, heck he was fighting the urge to throw himself at the Blood God and cling- but he was a big man, and big men didn't hug- "I told you he would be waiting" That's another voice that Tommy recognises, glancing away from the terrifying creature to land his gaze on a man sat lazily on one of the pews. His hair was curlier than Tommy's, darker too contrasting his fluffy yellow jumper and brown trenchcoat. He grins and Tommy can't help but smile back at the God of Music "He couldn't wait to see us, obviously" teases the Blood God and Tommy scoffs "As if- I actually live here nimrods, technically you're visiting me" he retorts and they chuckle "Then maybe we should have knocked?" That's a third voice and Tommy shivers in delight, watching a third man descend from seemingly nowhere, ebony wings gracing his fall as he lands lightly, emerald robes swilling around his feet as he smiles warmly. Hullo! This is my first story to be published and I honestly don't expect it to be read. This is a random AU I thought of and wrote within five days. Five days of which I should have been studying for finals. The story is completed so I am literally just copy-pasting it here. Don't expect nice chapter lengths. TW: mentions of abuse and neglect, neglect, mentions/flashback of a murder (including mentions of blood), mild/light cursing, mentions of panic attacks, there might be more that I missed and I'll update this if there are. This AU takes place after all of the adoption and stuff.
