"My heart tells me this is the best and greatest feeling I have ever had. But my mind knows the difference between wanting what you can't have and wanting what you shouldn't want. And I shouldn't want you." - Cassandra Clare

When Alex walked into the dining room for dinner on July 1st, everyone was already sitting. Matron looked murderous about something, and Alex's good mood dwindled like a candle wick in autumn zephyr.

"What's happened?" she asked timidly, taking a seat opposite Cassia.

"A new fad," Matron hissed. "Apparently, gay is good, now. They were holding a march today, shouting and causing a scene. Disgusting!"

"What's gay?" asked one of the younger kids, Eric, confused.

"It's a moral abhorrence," said Matron sharply. "When two men are... together. The fact that these... types of people are celebrating their moral failings is just another reason they should always be avoided."

Alex picked at her chicken. For some reason, she was thinking about Cassia and her pouty lips. She blushed and looked up at Cassia shyly, only to find that she was already staring back.
