Every month, the new 18-year-olds of the Union are voted into one of the country's quarters; Military, Leadership, or Support. But Tea Rhodes, a wealthy girl from the Military Quarter, isn't voted into any of the main quarters. She's voted Worthless, because she has no valuable skills, and is sent to die. After being rescued by a group of rogue Support, Tea battles with her own self-worth and the problems of her past. Along the way, she makes friends and discovers the truth about the government she once loved.

Where there's a will there's a way, and then there's Rem. A girl who lost it all after writing a book. Her writing style persuaded different groups to think and believe different things about her beliefs. The odd way her words touched the nation brought unity, which in turn made her the most revered woman in the United States. So much so that people sought her out to be the leader of the rebellion. Just shy of her twenty-first birthday, the once crazy college student leads a group of rebels through dangerous territory in an effort to escape to safer ground, only to face mountains of hardship in between. As the rebellion turns to full civil war, Rem tries her best to hold onto the last possession of her past life that she has, while juggling the relationships she builds on her journey. War changes every participant, and that's no exception for the Rebel princess.
