Imposters are man-eating aliens. Trap impersonates people skillfully and communicates well, but he struggles to hunt prey. Sly is a ferocious hunter with impressive stealth, but she converses poorly. They have an unpleasant first encounter on spaceship Astro Bird. It's particularly unfortunate the Cyan and Pink crewmates each imposter wants to replace are married and share a bedroom. However, what if grudging survival teamwork becomes more soulfully tender?

They have been chosen, and no longer have a choice or a will to change themselves. They are controlled to kill. They must kill secretly, because if they get caught they will be ejected into space to their last suffering moments of suffocation. This is the story of a group of very close friends who must fight for their survival. "Congratulations, Miss Duri. You're leading the fifty-fifth voyage to Polus." My initial giddiness wore away under a new and frankly uninvited sense of suspicion. Only an hour ago they were set on selecting anyone but me. What made them change their mind so quickly? "We were wrong about you, Genesis," the woman said. "We now believe you have the potential to do what your unlucky peers could not. However, you should know that there is no room for mistakes." Nareem leaned forward and picked up his chin. On a normal basis, he was about as intimidating as a rabbit. Now, though, he was pretty close to the office cat's level. "Don't mess this up for us, Miss Duri. Otherwise the consequences will be a lot worse than death." --- Genesis has always wanted to lead a mission to the Polus Space Station, orbiting a Jupiter moon millions of miles away. While each attempt to get there has been compromised by the scheming, violent Conclave, Genesis's hopes to become the next captain of the Skeld have not once faltered. When she finally gets the opportunity of a lifetime, Genesis quickly discovers that, despite her caution, all is not what it seems. Her superiors have maintained minimal contact, and she has reason to believe any one of her crewmates could be an imposter.
