The Star-Crossed Kingdom

Falling stars have always symbolised hope. To some, it's a streak of light in the midnight sky, and to others, something to wish upon.
The year was 1313. Meteors blazed past our planet, some of them falling stars. The star we speak of today is commonly called the Last Fallen Star by the people who were consequently created - the star-children. Sternenkind.

Roughly six centuries later, our story begins. The Sternenkind find themselves in the middle of an economic recession. Its capital, Valera, is plagued by hatred, enemies clouding its borders and spirits closing in on the entirety of the island.
Laila is faced with two choices: marrying or fending for herself. Unwilling to accept the former, she heads to the castle to join her brother in search of a job. Nathan, however, leads a second life there, where he's busy avenging his father's death.

Soon, she gets a job posing as a handmaiden for the princess and uncovers more about the inter-kingdom war that allegedly claimed her father. The identity of his assassin leads to a shocking revelation.
The king, Kumar, and her father were allies before one of them turned his back on the other during their mission. A mission, Laila realises, was left uncompleted: piecing together the last fallen star.
