After his parents' divorce, Charlie Florence began to view love as nothing but an annoyance. He does not care for it, wants no part in it, and believes the world much better off without it.

However, things change when his teacher asks him to deliver printouts to Alice Parkinson, a classmate of his who has been absent from school for over a month due to her worsening health condition. When the two meet, Alice makes a peculiar request of Charlie: to become her boyfriend so that she may experience a relationship before she dies. Finding himself unable to refuse her despite his indifference toward love, Charlies agrees to fulfill her final wish. Little does he know, however, that with each second spent with Alice, feelings he has locked deep inside him will begin to emerge once more.

Grandiloquent Desires tells the story of a boy who accompanies a girl in the final stages of her life as she helps him rediscover the emotions that he had long given up on.
