A huldra is a seductive forest creature found in Scandinavian folklore. She is known as the skogsrå "forest spirit" or Tallemaja "pine tree Mary" in Swedish folklore
Every Friday the 13th, a group of huldra, living in the mountains, publish the woman's magazine 'Bergtatt'. They answer questions of women who lived a full moon cycle in a forest-rich mountainous region and who deliberately pursued mountain encounters rather than being passive observed forced to deal with the mountains because of circumstances beyond their control. Mostly these questions are about hiking, climbing, skiing, homesteading, botanising, practical issues concerning living in a mountain and encounters with other human, non human animals and other beings - and mostly about seducing men.
This book celebrates the 600th anniversary of Bergtatt, by offering articles that are still relevant for women in forest-rich mountains today.

She did not like company. Only 2 years ago a raven wouldn't stop bothering her. Surprisingly, this bird became her beloved companion. He helps her with her job as a spirit-and distracts her at times. The Spirit Wolf's job is to bring life and to pass life. Bringing life is to help plants grow and to watch over all of the new mothers in spring. To pass life means to let a corpse sink into the ground and become one with earth itself. If the creature that passed had a good life, the Spirit would put them into the afterlife. If they died a very unfair death or was too young for their life to be over, she would help them reincarnate. She could not reincarnate a creature every time it was killed, though. It would only make them have infinite lives. The Spirit Wolf seemed unhappy when she did her job, but she enjoyed seeing the faces of pure happiness of the new mothers.
