Alan Sanford seems like your average 16 year old, but outside of school, he is an excellent Chess player. A world-class chess player, capable of beating the best of the best of the best. When Alan is invited to go to the World Chess Jamboree in Paris, everyone calls him a nerd and a geek, but Alan goes anyway. Alan  must find a way to place in the tournament, or see his life work go down like a pawn checking a king alone.
