I will begin by sending out a warning, much like one you may find when reading the book series "A Series of Unfortunate Events". I'd really rather not lie to you, so I'll come out and say that this is not a happy book. I did not write this to be happy and I did not use my insomniac nights to give you a happy go lucky novel.
There will be happy parts, but I am not above giving my character's mental illnesses and other issues, like being gay/pan and having homophobic parents, or having suicidal impulses and pretending to be ok. I am ok though. Well... As ok as an author really can be.
The two main characters are Charles and Rylie Banderwith, two homosexual siblings is a family of homophobes.
Rylie Banderwith is a 14 year old who has awful anxiety and is struggling with her gender identity. Her best friend is her older brother, Charles. She is pansexual as well, but she believes that it's really easy to pretend to be straight, because she does like boys too. It's just hard to be straight when talking to a cute girl who has the odd power to make your heart beat a thousand miles an hour...
Charles Banderwith is a 16 year old, and gay. He also struggles with suicidal impulses, and hates being alone for that reason. He has always been good at faking his emotions, and is an empath, so he is convinced that his problems aren't that important and is focused on helping other people. Besides, if he is alone for too long, maybe he can just call his 'friend'.
