I never should've called her that night. It should've been me.
_____
A record of Autumn's last chapters.
She knows it's close, as she lives to do whatever she can do, as her memories and nightmares haunt and taunt her. As her past comes back. She waits.
She waits for her last breath.
Eight years. It's been eight years since Autumn last saw her sister. Eight years, since her parents and brothers thought of her as family. Six, since she last saw her family. Six years since the her parents decided they could no longer bare to look their daughter's "murderer" everyday. Six years since they kicked her out. And lastly, two years since she last saw him, the love of her life.
She still thinks about them. Thinks about him. She still thinks about that night, the night she "lost" her sister. Then, the night she was kicked out. The night she met him. And then, the night he left her.
____
"Are you happy? Does- does she make you happy?" I ask him a beat after he picks up.

"...Yes"
"... I- I'm sorry to bother you. I shouldn't have called. I hope you and Kate have a good life. Goodbye Malcolm.."
"Autumn-" there's a pause "... I'll see you around ok? I'll call you back just give me a sec-"
"..."
"Bye Mal."
