When Blake comes home from being in Afghanistan for four years she is traumatized and badly wounded. She comes home with the Congressional Medal of Honor and Purple Heart for risking her life and hip for her troops. She hates the thought of leaving her military family behind at a base in Afghanistan but she can never go on another mission again. She has to stay at home rotting away in her own nightmares that seem to haunt her every minute of everyday. But as she works in a local book store, shelving and selling books for a crappy salary she ends up meeting someone. And he isn't just any man but something else that Blake can't seem to put her finger on.
