"Luke, I'm scared," Alice whispered, her grip on his shoulder tightening as the shadow nearby began moving near their hiding spot. "God, just kill me now."
The blonde boy took her face in his hands and stared right into her sparkly green eyes. "Alice, what did I promise you in October?"
"You told me you would protect me," she mumbled, staring at his chin instead of his eyes.
He bent his knees a bit so that she could stare into the dark ocean pit inside his eyes. "And that's exactly what I'm gonna do, princess, I swear. I'll do anything to make sure you're safe." His toned arms wrapped around Alice's body and he pressed his lips against her forehead before whispering,"Do you trust me?"
She nodded into her chest. Alice felt him slip a cold hard gun into the palm of her hand.
"I need you to run."
"Luke--"
He gave her a loving look before clenching his eyes shut and moving away from the brick wall. Luke yelled, making the first shot to distract Goodman's people. "Alice, run!"

The worst thing to her would be moving back and remembering her horrible past and now having to start over again.
