Dabi knows he's not the smartest or the strongest villain out there. Anyone could easily notice his weaknesses and very obvious mistakes, it's not like Dabi isn't damn honest about them.
He's sure he could never be the best hero either, because wholeheartedly, fuck heroes.
He understood at a young age life was horrible but even so, he left himself be dragged to the right path again, which is the hardest shit he's ever gone through (keep in mind the stories behind the scars across his body, and this statement speaks fucking volumes.)
When he finally manages to get out of prison, he thinks he will finally get to be happy, living sad and alone under probation forever until someone eventually gets on his nerves and they send him to jail once again to rot in the stinky place.
He didn't consider, however, that walking down the right path would make him realize there still may be things worth fighting for.
