Gavin Reed is seriously over worked, and finding it hard to cope in these new integrated times. It's no secret he hasn't been the same for the last couple years. Angry, bitter, resentful and on the edge of a mental breakdown. He's struggling to cope as Connor takes it upon himself to knock his walls down and throw his comfortable belief system into question. How the hell is he supposed to do his job if he starts seeing these smashed up robots as people?

A chance encounter at Cyberlife leaves him with even more than he bargained for as he's forced to work with a new partner. Over time he slowly decides that maybe the RK900 isn't so bad. Anything more than that? Hell no. Not Gavin Reed. No way.

Meanwhile it seems an old adversary of Reed's has come back to haunt him. Or has he? That's what Perkins needs his help to find out as the FBI takes on an old serial case.

The cases are clearly connected, but the lack of physical evidence is leaving him in an endless spiral. Is he really trying hard enough? Or are his old prejudices clouding his judgement? Luckily his partner is there to help him out, but even Nines has issues as he battles to figure out his new feelings. Perkins and Colin continue doing their best, but now they're trying to track down two serial killers with no clues left behind. Which killer will slipup first? And what does that mean for Reed and Nines? Even Connor has issues to deal with as Niles returns intent on finding a father figure, and determined to make sure it's Connor.
