It's been a year since Esme and Nero Jackson went missing. In that year, their devoted parents Percy and Annabeth have been searching. Worried that they are breaking down, Chiron decides the best thing to do is for Percy and Annabeth both to forget - to forget their own children.
It's a new life, and everything has changed. Without the children, Percy and Annabeth divorced, and Annabeth is engaged to a new man - a human, who she is hiding her godly life from, despite still being the architect for the Olympians. And Percy is still working at Camp Half-Blood as a fighting instructor.
But both are getting flashbacks - flashbacks of Annabeth being pregnant, flashbacks of Percy holding the newborn babies... flashbacks of the pain they felt when their beloved son and daughter disappeared. And with the help of the gods, Percy and Annabeth head out to discover the truth.
