Loss is never easy. Especially not when the person you lose is the person you've looked up to your entire life.

Senior year started out like normal, football practices and parties on Friday nights. Beach trips and family dinners. I thought that was how the rest of my last year in high school was going to go. Boy was I wrong.

Enter Jaxon Castillo. A boy who changed my entire world. He knocked me off my feet and tilted my world off axis. Beginning the year I didn't think I was looking for a relationship. I wanted to spend my last year with my friends, making memories. God I am so glad that changed. Within a short amount of time he became my everything, he makes me feel safe.

But not even him could save me from the heartache I was going to feel. My life will never be the same, I don't know how to be okay again and I don't know how to make my family feel okay again.

Loss is never easy. But I never thought I'd go through it. It feels like getting my family back on track is a lost cause.

"Ava, you have to be quiet! They'll hear you-" Tears started to spill from my eyes, blending in with the rain that dripped down my face. I shouldn't have come here. The last time I followed someone I made accidentally noise and got them killed. I had to get away from Jaxon. I turned on my heel, ready to run to, but Jaxon grabbed my wrist. "Let go" I choked, "I have to leave. You're in danger-" The next thing I knew, his lips crashed onto mine. His arms wrapped around my body, pulling tightly to his chest. "Stop it" I sobbed, unable to control my trembling. "Why are you doing this? Let me go-" "I had to get you quiet" he murmured. "Please Ava. You have to try to calm down. I understand you're scared right now, but you have to trust me. We're going to get home safely. Stay with me a few more minutes, and then we'll get the f*ck out of here. I promise." -- A little about Ava: She has made the long move from Detroit, Michigan to California to escape her gruesome past. She moves in with her older sister, and is ready to start her junior year of high school. Despite the demons she carries, she holds onto hope for a bright future. A little about Jaxon: he's 17, and Oceanview High's resident bad boy. He comes from the Marvel family, a family of cold-hearted millionaires who don't seem to care much about their kids. UPDATE: this book is getting published! While I'd love to keep the first draft fully on here, it's very different than the soon-to-be-published version (don't get me started on how problematic the first draft was). And by different, I mean different title, different synopsis and a lot of scenes have been either redacted or added. If you'd like to know more, I have frequent updates on my IG at @author_linguisticsaddict They say opposites attract. But that wasn't the case for Layla and Jaxon. BEFORE Both bear the deep scars of despair, and for that, they were unknowingly drawn to each other. After surviving a freak accident, Layla struggles to keep up with life and high school and move past the grief. Even though the cut ties, sleepless nights, and repeated blame almost makes it impossible. Until she meets Jaxon, someone who might just make life worth living again. But how can they find happiness with each other when they are both broken beyond repair? AFTER She will never see him again. After seizing a chance to escape from her past, Layla knows she's not going to make the same mistake she did three years ago. She's determined to move on from what happened, stay hidden from those in her past, and find happiness again. But like all things, that's easier said than done. And when the last person she expects collides into her life, it becomes near impossible. ººººººººººººººººº She doesn't believe in serendipity. He refuses to give up. Maybe, they can light up each other's world. And keep it from burning. **Book 1 of the Serendipity trilogy** - rated mature due to some themes on depression, addiction, and the sexually mature parts (those parts are marked) - Draft 1 completed: 11/12/21 {Word Count: 113, 000 - 114, 000 }

Our moms were best friends. There wasn't much more to it than that. Every holiday, vacation and weekend, I was forced to spend time with Jax and his family. When I was four years old and he drenched my favorite blouse in ketchup, Jax and I became arch enemies...and then - somehow - we became best friends. But like I said, there wasn't much more to it than that. Mostly. Okay, so of course I liked him a little. How could I not? Even though Jax was annoying at times, he was also funny, athletic, popular, and downright hot, and I was his nerdy little best friend. He was my protector, the one who rescued me countless times from countless threats. We shared more than just friendship... Until the death of Jax's mother. The grief drove a wedge between us, and only so much more grief would follow. But pain has a way of tearing people apart, only to force them back together again. That's what happened to us. And, unfortunately, the only way around pain is through it. Trigger Warning: This book contains references to physical abuse and sexual trauma. Please read cautiously, and remember to take care of yourself.
