The Love Principle

Maiara Venison had been in love with him since grade school. Her best friend Anika Alexander decided that it'd be best if Maiara didn't try to date someone so popular given her own lowly high school status. Ignoring Anika's advice, Maiara confesses to Xavier Mogadore on the last day of school. Much to her heartbroken dismay, he rejects her, embarrassing her in front of all of his friends. Maiara decides to never share her feelings with anyone, again. Letting her guilt get the best of her over the summer, Anika admits to Maiara that her and Xavier had been dating each other secretly for months, unbeknownst to her "best friend."
It is now two years later, and Maiara is starting her first year at Kendleton University. Settling back in to the school life and meeting new friends, Maiara runs into none other than Xavier Mogadore. However, this time, he's different. He isn't the same drop-dead-gorgeous Xavier she once had been so incredibly in love with. His previously delectable-looking lips, were tinted like bruises. He smelled of pot -and, moreover, for the first time ever, he looked at her and smiled...
