Rudy Thespian is a 15-year-old uranic non-binary who is only out to their best friend, Italy. Italy Rose is a 16-year-old lesbian who is only out to Rudy.

Rudy's parents are extreme homophobes who would kick them out if they knew that Rudy wasn't a straight cis boy. Italy's parents are almost exactly the same. But they also know that their parents have noticed them being together all of the time- and think that they're dating.

So, the two of them come up with a scheme. They would pretend to date each other to protect each other from getting outed. The perfect crime- until Rudy falls for a brooding, mysterious foreign exchange student and Italy falls for the sweetest senior she's ever met.
