A world where magic must be hidden from mankind is a world where mages have no reason to exist.
Zara was one of them--a young woman forced to spend her days in confinement, to lessen the risks of outsiders discovering the truth.
She was not human.
She was, as they say, a living embodiment of a thousand year old curse upon the Kingdom and humanity as a whole.
And the only way to handle a curse, is to get rid of it--which is precisely what the Kingdom has proceeded in doing for centuries--eliminating any being that contained even an ounce of enchanted blood.
Zara's lived most of her life with the threat of death hanging over her head. Though this never averted her heightening curiosity about magic, nor the abilities innate within her.
And when a powerful, enigmatic Sorcerer comes to her with a proposition, Zara finally sees her chance to embrace the curse she was born with.
It was a chance laced with precarity and destruction, but a chance nonetheless...

Nasia, a magic-less young witch, enters Yeliara Academy in hopes of obtaining her magic essence. She races against time to get her magic or else she's dying. But what happens when the secrets surrounding her magical abilities start unravelling? In the land of Ikrovar, magic is everything. Nasia, a magic-less witch born from a pureblooded witch, dreams of entering Yeliara Academy. So, when she learns that Yeliara is opening its doors to new witches, she hops on the nearest train with her friend, Xena, and takes the hardest entrance exam. Being magic-less never guaranteed her a spot in the academy. However, receiving a letter embossed with the Y logo of the school, hope blossoms in her heart. Maybe, just maybe, Yeliara offers a solution to her biggest problem. Stepping into the halls of her dream academy, she has steeled herself to do her utmost best. Although she was magic-less, her training back home was never less than the prodigious witches in their town. Her mother made sure she was knowledgeable enough of the theories and history of magic and witches. But theories and history will never be enough for her. In a land that treats magic as the highest form of self, identity, and expression, she will never amount to anything if she remains a magic-less witch. Oh, and how could she forget! One of the lessons with her mother told her that witches receive their magic essence before the age of fifteen. She is now fourteen, barely a year away from turning fifteen. She's dying. She'll die unless she receives her magic essence. She's dying and her mother's nowhere to be found! How can a magic-less witch find her mother and survive her oncoming death? Yeliara's halls start feeling small, her worries about not having magic seem trivial against all the secrets being uncovered. She only ever wanted to be a true witch. But, if having magic suddenly becomes a burden, is it better to be a magic-less witch?

Sora has no place in the world. She is meant to be a strong warrior, with the ability to shift into a wolf. She is none of those things, and looked down upon because of it. It brings shame to her, it brings shame to her family, and worst of all, it brings shame upon her prideful and strong brother. There is but one person who truly knows and loves her, but does he really? Magic is not the weapon of a warrior, magic is the weapon of a coward. Sora has been told that all her life, but she has magic within her, recently awakened, and so she has begun to doubt it. Still, witchcraft is punishable by death, and so Sora must be careful with her practices, lest she lose all she has. Sora is a better witch than wolf, though not by much, but she still pursues that craft in spite of the dangers. Her place in the world is a dangerous one, but will it last? The world she lives in is a dangerous one, and such a life as hers rarely ends happily. Disclaimer: this is a short prequel, Sora's story does not conclude with this one. If you finish this book and go "oh, that's the end?" it's because it's not the end. I'm writing a trilogy called Mortance that explores the larger world that this takes place in and concludes Sora's story more thoroughly than in this book. Go read that next if you like my writing, thanks. Please leave any and all criticisms you might have, anything you like and anything you dislike, I want to make this as good as I can. P.S. the cover is literally just a drawing I made in physics class, I know it's bad, I'm not an artist.
