Rebecca Hasam is not a die-hard Elvis fan and never really bothered to learn about him since he was popular in her grandparents' generation, not hers. Well... she has the opportunity to learn more about him when she visits Memphis for her work as a reporter, covering a story on Elvis for Elvis Week. She gets there and meets an Elvis impersonator. After some turn of events, and to her utter shock, she finds that the impersonator is the real thing, and she has been transported to 1965. Now, she's not only a reporter, she is a stand-in actress in Elvis's movie Harum Scarum, the role of which she accepted somewhat impetuously, with a hidden motive to pick Elvis's brain for her story. Elvis is one of the most famous men in the world, and pretty much everyone loves him for his fame. He has always said that he wouldn't let the fame get to his head. Well, it does, very much so. The love of his fans is like a drug to him. He wants to do whatever he can to make them happy. And the women... they love being involved with a very famous man. Even his girlfriend Priscilla is his fan, maybe his biggest fan. Something needs to be done about all of this. In 1965, Elvis sees a very interesting young woman wearing all black and has black hair and heavy makeup. The young woman, whose name is Ignis, claims to be an enchantress. She shakes her head at Elvis and tells him that the fame has gone to his head, and people only love him because he's famous. If he can find someone who will love and accept him for him and not his fame, other than his family and friends, his fame will not be taken away from him permanently. The spell is put on him, and he has the whole summer--June 21st to September 21st--to find someone who loves him for him, and they have to tell him so, too. And a twist made by Ignis: he has to love and accept this person for who they are as well. Sam's father is the main groundskeeper for Graceland, Elvis's house. She's less than thrilled when her father asks her to work there. Her previous job treated her horribly, and others in general pick on her because she doesn't have a lot of fashion sense, and she's not much to look at. People had even called her "beast" at times and "outcast." She hates the idea of being around the famous and beautiful Elvis Presley. Maybe she will just steer clear of him the whole time she's there.

Finally, after being pushed aside by other reporters the first couple of occasions, she gets the interview she wants with young Mr. Presley, just not in the way that she planned. She's shocked to be coveted by the director of "Loving You" and is thrown into the cast unexpectedly, working right alongside The King. What will she do when she finds herself falling madly in love with him? And what will she do when this honest, charming and good-hearted star falls madly in love with her too? Sure she becomes an icon because of her purple hair and a rumor that says she's from the future, but the real thing here is that she befriended her idol, is falling in love with him, and is trying to tell him information about his future that can save his life. Elvis is intrigued by this strange girl who says she's from the future, and who knows all his songs, even ones she claims hasn't come out yet. He finds himself drawn to her and her purple hair. Does she know something? Will she change his life?

He soon finds out exactly what happens to him in his own future and he makes decisions that could change it. Will he be able to? And will he be able to convince these future people that he's him and not a really good impersonator?

No other woman has a chance with him, besides Joan Blackman, who plays his love interest in the movie, and who he is in love with. He also has another girlfriend Anita Wood. So, yes, Deanne doesn't have a chance. He has two girlfriends, he's in love with another woman, and... guys don't like tall girls. Elvis is intrigued with this very tall girl who becomes his coworker on the movie set. She is kind, funny and extremely pretty, but she has a lack of self-esteem since she seems to be hassled and made fun of because of her height - no one sees the real her since her height masks it. Well, maybe he can do something about this so she can see herself as an incredible and beautiful individual, inside and out. Falling for her is a possibility, regardless of his teen girlfriend Priscilla, other girlfriend Anita Wood, and love for his co-star Joan.
