Spencer Reid has finally lost the love of his life for good...or so everyone thinks. After taking a bullet for her ex-boyfriend, the team believes their unit chief to be dead but Spencer knows different. He also knows that the only way to ensure Amanda, the team, and his own safety, he has to pretend that she's really dead.

Now, with the addition of a new team member, the team has to learn to get along without feeling like Dr. Blake isn't replacing their fallen comrade. Meanwhile, Spencer has to keep Amanda's secret, mourn his lost relationship, and deal with the hallucination of his first love that won't go away no matter how hard he tries, how many vitamins he takes, or how many women he screws.

Will Spencer cave under the pressure and tell everyone about Amanda? Will the younger Hotchner succeed in finding out who was after her family? Or will Spencer actually go crazy as he tries to be someone that he still recognizes while accepting the fact that even if she comes back, he may never get to be with Amanda again?

Find out in the next installment of The Story of Us: Dark Paradise.

He grabbed my arm at the last second and pulled me back, pressing my body tightly against his. "You like living on the edge, don't you?" He asked with a teasing smile, he was so close I could feel his breath on my mouth. "Only when I know you're there to catch me if I fall," I smiled back at him, biting my lip. His smile disappeared and a frown was put in its place, "we should talk." "About why you're being an ass to me?" I asked, feeling bold. I saw the shock register on his face before he could hide it. "I wasn't aware that I was," he said and cleared his throat. My heart was beating out of my chest and I could smell him so clearly, pine and a hint of lavender, mixed with the scotch from his breath. I knew he hadn't been drinking a lot, but I had, so I took my chance, the urge to kiss him taking over. Though his lips were pretty, it was the feel of them that sent my mind into a sensual state of intoxication. His lips gently pressed against mine made my legs shake. His hands held me tight by the waist and mine was lost in his hair. In that kiss was the sweetness of passion, a million loving thoughts condensed into one moment. The hint of a promise. A promise of realness, a promise to love him forever. - This is the sequel to BLAKE. This is a Criminal Minds story. I do not own Criminal Minds. "It's been awhile," I looked at him with a small smile. "What brings you back here? You're not here because you missed me, are you?" I raised my eyebrows and gave him a sly smirk. He didn't answer, clearly he wasn't in the mood to play. "Don't be shy, Agent, I missed you too," I tilted my head to the right, allowing the corners of my mouth to move upwards. He raised one eyebrow, still locked in his silence, still staring at me. I had had enough of his cold demeanor, he was the one who came to me. "Why are you here, Hotchner?" I asked. "It better not be because you have more questions about my father, because I'm not answering any more of those." I moved my head an inch forward, putting my entangled hands on the table, looking at him intently, making sure he understood. "I want you to work for me," the handsome man in the suit finally spoke. - This is a Criminal Minds story. I do not own Criminal Minds.
