Resentment

My dreams were haunted by him.
Every time I shut my eyes, all I could see was the flash of his metal arm pinning me to the wall by my neck any time I would mouth off, my feet dangling inches off the floor. I'd remember the pain, the knives, the hunger, all of it.
None of it haunted me more than the cold look in his blue eyes as he shattered my arm for taking his knife. I don't think I would have been able to kill him, that would have been nearly impossible for my skill set at the time. I had stolen it to protect myself from the next round of torture, to fend him off, and it had cost me.

Evangeline, the accidental Avenger who only wanted her brother's approval. It's all she had ever wanted in life, was to be seen by him, but all she saw was disappointment.
Disappointment when Loki got to her in the Battle of New York, heightening her accidental abilities.
Disappointment in Washington, when the Winter Soldier kidnapped and tortured her.
Disappointment in Sokovia, when Wanda Maximoff made her blow out.
Disappointment in Lagos, when she failed to contain a blast on a mission she wasn't supposed to be on.
And now disappointment in Bucharest, when she found herself on the other side of the Accords, helping the last person she wanted to see.
Somehow being Steve Rogers' closest friend roped her into missions she wished she could walk away from, and this was one of those times. Following Steve had lead her right back to the very person who haunted her nightmares. The very person who had tortured and abused her. The very person who had shattered her arm.
And now she had to defend him.
Fate was a fickle thing, and it seemed to keep leading Evangeline to the Winter Soldier.
And god did she hate him.
