14 year old Alexis Drake lives in a world where we have run out of important resources like water, coal, gasoline, and money. The government sends her a letter for a chance to earn a lifetime supply of these things. After sending in an application she learns that The Extrosyncrocy is really a top secret simulation consisting of 10 levels. 1000 children sign up and only five can win. 

After learning the truth about The Extrosyncrocy, she has to find a way out of killing her brother, crush, and new best friend, and still surviving herself.
