What if Baghra's motives for separating Aleksander and Alina were more sinister?

I'd never meant to get this caught up in her. She was just suppose to be a means to an end, and perhaps a companion for eternity. Perhaps I'd have loved her eventually but I had assumed it would take years for that to happen. Not mere moments. I was doomed from the start. I'd had plans for the Sun Summoner for hundreds of years. How to control her, to use her against our enemies and yet... that all seemed to disappear when she finally came into my life. I'd never understood the concept of soulmates until her. Alina Starkov. My Sun Summoner. My equal. My other half. I never realized how much of myself was missing until she had been quiet literally dragged into my life.

After killing the stag and forcing the amplifier on Alina, the Darkling decides that letting Alina and Mal go might be a better investment. After all, the boy is only mortal, one day he will die and Alina will return to his waiting arms. "I'm not going to kill you, Mal. I don't need to. Time will do it for me" ________________________________ "All right." She did little to hide her shock. "What?" "You can go, Alina." She narrowed her eyes and opened her mouth but he cut her off before she could spew whatever distrustful comments she had planned. "You and the tracker can go and live out your merry little lives. Have your 50 years, maybe even 70 if you're lucky, and when your fantasy crumbles around you, you will see that only you and I remain. You will return to my waiting arms." ________________________________ !!! There will be SPOILERS both for the show AND the books (this includes elements from the KoS duology). !!! This fic will deal with heavy topics: war, violence, loss, grief, death, and manipulation will all be explored. There are mentions of SA and explicit dub-con scenes. The relationship between Alina and Aleksander is very much toxic throughout the story and it will for the most part remain toxic. Moreover, nothing in the story is meant to be taken at face value, rather, themes and actions were left morally grey, so to be explored and dissected by the reader. If these are themes that will trigger you or make you uncomfortable PLEASE do not engage. This is a mature story and should be treated as such, at the end of the day we are responsible for what we consume on the internet.

༶•┈┈ ♛ ┈┈•༶ "You really want me to shy away like I used to? Like your little mouse?" I pierce him with every word. The Darkling stares back and for a while the only thing that moves in the room are the shadows. "Alina, you misunderstand me. I have waited centuries for someone like you. Centuries, Alina, alone. I do not need to answer your question. You know what I want." Please don't say it, I think. "I want you to be my Queen, Alina." He pushes off from his chair and I shiver in my seat as he pauses by my side. The Darkling's hands find my chin and he holds my head tenderly with both hands. My power sparks at his touch like fire to kindling and I have to clench a hand in my dress skirt to keep control. He makes sure my gaze is entirely on him when he says, "And you know you will." I shake underneath the pressure of his words and he strokes my chin to calm me. Fine, but he has no idea what he is asking for. I shall be a queen, but not his. And he will regret the day he forced me back at his side like a dog. Aleksander, I think, bow. ༶•┈┈ ♛ ┈┈•༶ It starts with burst of light, like it did in the beginning. Fearing the loss of her new life, she sets out on a mission to the Little Palace with hopes her old friends could help her. Little does Alina know, a familiar shadow sits on the throne of Grisha. As a whirlwind of events sets her right back on square one, Alina makes a vital decision to change everything. Still, she finds herself teetering in the edge of letting the Darkling and her powers swallow her up. The Sun Summoner has grown and she can no longer be a saint. She has to be a queen. ༶•┈┈ ♛ ┈┈•༶ This is a Grisha trilogy fanfiction that takes place after Ruin and Rising. All rights belong to Leigh Bardugo. VERY SLOW BURN Darklina!
