Null

Fundamentals: individuals who can control one of the physical elements; fire, water, air, earth.

Elementals: individuals who can control all four physical elements. They are unstable and at risk of becoming Voids. The risk grows as they age, needing a Null to stop that from occurring.

Nulls: Spirt elementals; individuals who have no control over the physical elements. Can use the spirit element to temporarily stabilize Elementals at risk of imploding into Voids and can permanently stabilize and strengthen an Elemental when they form an Intrinsic Bond with one.

Rae is an orphan that has struggled to build a measly life for herself while hiding a secret, she hadn't manifested an affinity for any of the elements yet, nor has she received the mark that marked an individual with what she considered the worst fate possible, a Null.

She's able to keep her lack of elemental control hidden at her job at a cornerstore where as a cashier who's barely able to make ends meet, she doesn't need to manipulate the elements. All she knew was that if word got out the Null Center would come for her. With fewer Nulls being manifesting and more Elementals imploding into Voids each year, they were desperate to find more Nulls. If they had even the slighted suspicion that she could be one, they would drag her off to the Center where she would be forced to interact with those she feared the most.

Elementals.

So she kept her secret hidden.

After witnessing the death of her parent at the young age of nine due to an unstable Elemental imploding into a void, Rae feared Elementals. Just the thought of being near one made her hands tremble.

She thought she had nothing to fear since Nulls presented by the age of 16, she definitely didn't expect the surprise that her 27th birthday brought.

Nor did she expect the bully who loved to torment her at the orphanage they grew up in to make a reappearance in her life.
