'Inexcusable': Stephen Collins apologizes for inappropriate sexual conduct with underage girls
I have interviewed many individuals who have done what Mr. Collins admits to what he did. The clients I discussed this behavior with all stated that they had no self-worth as to who they were as people and looked to this behavior with children for validation, emotional safety, trust physical safety and empowerment, although tragic. The actions of Mr. Collins tell me that there is a high probability that someone, usually a family member or relative, did something to him which caused him to seek a form of comfort from a child. Every client I encountered had a childhood trauma that perpetuated the behavior. Once the trauma is exposed the healing can begin through understanding and awareness.
The article mentions that he has been going to therapy for 20 years to deal and possible heal his problem. I have a problem with that because 20 years is a long time to uncover the underlying issues.
