This novel narrates the story of doctor Aaron Heymann and his quest to find a way to contact himself as seen in another universe on the Grid (A map of time and parallel universes). He unravels a fairy-tale universe of which he and his young intern, Marc, are a part of along with other characters and faces he has seen on the street. While trying to explore this newly discovered world and the events that unfold in it, Dr. Heymann and Marc set off a change of events that could damage that world forever- and upset the balance of the Grid.
