A dark fae novella spin of the Scent of an Angel series. From on top of the silver hills, Rampart watched as the great tree of the Copper Groves clan burned. The latest casualty of the Fae silver war was one of the oldest and strongest holds the revolution had. Ever since the war began two years ago, the Erlking's guard had attempted many times to infiltrate the half breed sympathizers without success. But with one large push, their army had finally broken into the city. Rampart and the other rebels fought as hard as they could, but the horde of silver, featureless helmets couldn't be turned back. Eventually Ozil's call for retreat rang through the battlefield. The destruction of such an important city would be a devastating moral loss to the revolution. One that may turn the course of the war back into the guards favor.

It was the Faeris who had started the war and gained power over all of Eltor. It was the Faeri Empire which had plunged the land into fear and slavery. The elves had fled, leaving over the seas; and the dwarves had retreated beneath the earth, too far for the Faeris to reach them. And what could the humans do, but burn? Irene hated the Faeri Empire and its ways. She hated every member of the Faeri race. After her parents were killed in a riot against Faeri Knights, she turned her back on the law and became the Empire’s sworn enemy. A brilliant warrior, and known to the people as “The Archer”, she has spent her life causing chaos amongst the Empire, never being caught – only a shadow in the night. Until now. When captured during a raid against the Empire, Irene prepares herself to face the hangman’s noose – until the Faeri King makes a different call. One that will change her life forever. Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer, right? But what if they’re one and the same thing?
