Halle Iverson can't remember the first 6 years of her life. But she's more worried about finishing the month detention free and making the first A on her report card. Just when she might succeed, a stranger interrupts her life in Scottsdale with a confession.
Her memories weren't lost. They were stolen.
And so the journey to find them begins. In a world of gold horned elephants, wolfkeepers, and floating Chinese palaces, as Halle searches for the truth. How can she be the warrior prodigy that others claim when she's too short and too dumb to help anyone? Are her parents really kidnappers?
Whatever the truth is, she better find it quickly. Bounty hunters known as Collectors scavenge the universe, looking for towns to invade and people to harvest. And if Halle can't reclaim her past and forgive those who betrayed her, Scottsdale will be but a memory.

Trepidation: Act 1, écrit par CashewNutt12
10 chapitres Terminé Contenu pour adultes
10,000 years in the future, humanity has long since inhabited a region of space simply known as the "Habitable Zone of the Milky Way," or simply the "Habitable Zone." Many advancements have been made, though many are irrelevant to the billions - or perhaps more - of souls scattered across space. Everything operates under the silent, vague, but present scrutiny of the gods, with thaumaturgic talents dominating many human cultures in some capacity. Churches reign over the post-Altarum territories a century after the Silence. The World, at least as far as many within the Habitable Zone are concerned, is a cold, thoughtless plane of existence. It is within a single vessel, known as the CSS Groundskeeper, do things begin to influence the "Things To Be," as labeled by followers of the pantheon. Within this ship, two individuals will face the beginning of what is to be unimaginable horrors within an unforgiving universe, both with the same goal: do not succumb to the darkness. Trepidation: Act I is the first story in what is to be a much longer novel detailing the story of two individuals in the cold universe. Act I may contain disturbing content for some readers. Special thanks to Lilian (liliantherat@bsky.social) Elise S. (Seventh Bean) Colt Klassic C.W.K. Peregrine Nasturtium_K Chaz Shade For inspiration and your characters for novel adaptation. Trepidation, Act I and future acts, would not be possible without all of you. (I am awestruck at how well this has done. The read to vote ratio is something I never could have expected, and I thank both my friends and all new readers for current and continued support, even if the support is merely reading. Seriously, thank you.)

"Everyone he cared about was gone-stolen by a city that chased the dead." Detective Jonah Cole wakes up a blank slate in the city of Veridian. His memory is wiped clean, and Nadia Vega, the partner he can't remember, is his only guide into a conspiracy that runs deeper than his own missing past. Their target: Silas Vale, the city's techno-messiah, whose company MemGen sold the world the MemChip-the power to add, delete, and rewrite a life. Vale's digital church, Omega, promises salvation by tithing memories. But the truth is a nightmare of consciousness hacks, killings, and ghostly bleed-throughs that refuse to be silenced. To reclaim his identity, Cole must break the church of memory that runs his city. But in a world built on editable lives, the thing calling itself salvation will fight like hell to keep its saints. Teaser: "They're always with you, Jonah. Just like me. None of us are ghosts. Just different forms of energy fighting to exist."
