The Specials were once human beings, but not after the Genesis got a hold of them. It's not often you meet a person with super powers or special abilities, but when you live in the town of Beginnings Creek, anything can happen.
The Lockhart family is new to Beginnings Creek, and are more than ready to have a new beginning, but they can never escape their secrets. A secret is what killed Evelyn, Toby, and Lacy's parents. Secrets are what made the Lockhart family fall apart. Now orphans, Lacy, Toby, and Evelyn go live with their Grandfather, Granddad, in Beginnings Creek.
New home, new guardian, new start. Evelyn and Lacy are determined to keep their special abilities at bay, and try to live a normal life, but the powers are a part of them and that, they can never change. In the not-so-distant future evolved humans emerged. Those who had powers that broke conventional laws of physics, chemistry, and biology were dubbed E.H.s (evolved humans); it was wondrous for a time. Of course if there was power to be used there would be those who misuse. To that end the evolved humans police department was formed to deal with all crime committed by or connected to E.H.s, a force entirely comprised of E.H.s trained to stop and capture any E.H. breaking the law. Adlet Blacksteel is the newest edition to the E.H.P.D., his skills and experience as a hostage extractor makes him an invaluable edition. Joined by his new partner, Jenna Jones, he pursues a secretive manhunt for the Soldiers Of The New World, an underground E.H. crime organization that has a hand in all that is illegal, and their mysterious leader: String, who, seemingly, has eyes and ears everywhere. While Adlet and Jenna intend on doing this by the books, their unsavory past with two of String's captains may muddy their judgement, or, more accurately, it already has. As String's ambitions grow beyond just controlling the city's underbelly Adlet and Jenna are forced to take action with an ally he did not desire. While prejudice against E.H.s reaches it's peak because of a horrific tragedy, the Soldiers of the New World waste no time to expand their reach and rally for their cause of taking over the city.
