the setup here is that this is a post post apocalypse type period wherein there are many many tribes, and the cities are desolate and destroyed, the loners of this world lightly sprinkled throughout. It is very dangerous, and you can't really trust anyone there at all. Especially this person, with whom our main character engages in a hookup not too long after meeting, when he threatens her life.
