"I was born into darkness. But I am made of light." -Christy Anne Martine
An anomalous.
"deviating from what is standard, normal, or expected."
That's what the children were. Never ordinary. Even before leaving the womb, they showed signs of abnormalities no one had ever seen. After being held away from society all their lives, the doors to their prison come crashing down and they're able to see the world. In all it's broken glory.
From two to fourteen, the children have to learn how to pave their own way in a world now ruled by the dead. The journey starts when one is found by a King County sheriff's deputy, and another shows up at camp with baggage. They've got their secrets, and their reasons to keep them. Even from the ones they love most. When everything is turning against them, how will they learn to survive while also trying to live?
"I don't belong to anyone, Veni."
"Well, guess what. You belong to me."
"You don't belong to anyone. It's just you."
"I belong to myself. There's not always gonna be a time when you can lean on others, little one. You just have to know you, to know you're good, that you do good. If others want something different, then let them be them. Just know you're good. And that it can't change. So you use the good you have and multiply it to replace others and add up more, and you'll grow. Really, that's the only recipe you need."
