Sixteen-year-old Victoria Thorne has spent the past six months cultivating the perfect poker face since her older sister Kelsie nearly drowned in the lake behind their home from strangulation. But as her sister languishes in a coma, memories suddenly surface that leave Victoria determined to find out who tried to kill her sister—even if she has to enlist the help of Kelsie's former best friend.

After Victoria sees a headstone for Kelsie – who’s still breathing, albeit with the aid of machines – she decides she must find out who tried to kill her beloved sister to put her parents at ease before they pull the plug. It is too late; a second too soon, she steps into the road, and she is crippled. A freak accident everyone says. She's not too sure.

As she confronts the man who claims to know her she uncovers her sister's terrifying demons and her own memories of the day she found Kelsie's nearly-drowned body, she must come to terms that not everyone is as they seem.
