Tanjiro was the first born child to the Kamado family on July 14th in Taisho Era Japan. Upon being born the family had expected a son, the doctor had told them that Tanjiro was a very strong and healthy child. Something that was uncommon at this time thus the parents expected that They'd be a male at birth.

It immediately became apparent when they were born that they were in fact NOT male and instead a rather strong, healthy baby girl who resembles her father almost perfectly. Instantly falling in love with their little girl Kei and Tanjuro made the decision to raise her as a man, To give her the freedom a person with such a healthy body deserves.

A year after Tanjiro's birth, Nezuko was born. Since they were so close in age Nezuko knew all along of her brother's true Identity, but kept it to herself knowing how much her brother takes the role of the eldest son seriously.

Though Nezuko did enjoy bringing Tanjiro out of his shell every once in a while, begging him to allow her to brush his hair and such... how could he refuse his darling sister? Especially when she asks so politely.

On the fateful day that Tanjiro descended the mountain to sell charcoal, he had given Nezuko one of his Hanafuda earrings promising he'd always be with her even when he wasn't standing beside her.
