[Book 1 of the Friendships Duology]

August Patterson is a boy of 16 years old, and seemingly has lived his life like any other. He goes to school, talks to friends, then sleeps. A repeating cycle of dread.

And so when his world seems to get turned upside down after developing a crush on his childhood best friend, Jett Martinez, he loses himself. The waves fall over him, washing him down, down, and away. He knows his life has changed forever, when things get rocky between him and Jett. How will they deal with these new feelings? Will their friendship survive this rickety boat they seem to be riding together? Read to find out!

~~~~~~~~~
"Fuck- August don't stop-," as I say this, August must come to his senses, because a horrified expression takes over his entire face. And in a moment, all that sweet tenderness between us is gone. He's about five feet away again before he finally gives me one last strained look, turns and runs.
Also the story contains a few things that may need a trigger warning like smoking, drinking, sexual content, I'll make sure to add a tw at the beginning of the chapters with it in them.
Sage Gibson wasn't prepared for his whole existence to be uprooted and moved away. He didn't love his life, but that didn't mean he wouldn't miss it. Now he's in a small town where he pretends not to notice the looks some people give him. Maybe it's the painted finger nails? He doesn't care all that much. He's too busy trying to figure himself out and how much of his past is affecting him. With his family to worry about and his own personal puzzle that is his mind, he doesn't have time to care about what people at school think of him. He's happy enough with his one new friend and gawking at her hot brother. (He will never admit that last part out loud.) That's all he needs. And if said hot brother wants to become friends too? Well, he won't complain. Marc Yamasaki is normally a quiet guy. He doesn't like to talk too much and everyone has just accepted that. He doesn't have much to say, so why try? He's too tired of trying to get people to care. When a new boy shows up, suddenly his interest is piqued. The freckled face boy is good at basketball and he's a little cute. Sure, he likes to talk a lot, but Marc finds it oddly adorable. The only slight problem is his hesitation to join the team, and the fact that he might be flirting with Aria, Marc's sister. He can't tell if he wants to hate or like this guy. Then he finds out he's gay? Cherry on top. So, what happens when the two boys get closer while playing basketball? Their friendship gets to feeling a little... odd. What will they become when a new tension starts to settle over them?
NEW VERSION IS PUBLISHED "He squints his eyes at me with an intense glare that makes me squirm. I don't know if it's the intense pain in my shoulder or his stare, but something sends a shiver down my spine. I have now extended to my full height and look up to realize this guy is towering over me, not looking too happy. I become aware of our close proximity and take a step back, averting my eyes from his intense gaze. I clear my throat and fumble with the edge of my apron, looking down as I say, 'Sorry 'bout that.' I hear no response. I wait a moment, then I look up and he's gone." Spencer Hastings knows one thing for sure: he hates Jack Summers. Everything about him. He hates his rude manners, his intense stare, his restless movements. But he just can't lay a finger on why Jack Summers unnerves him so much. Until now.
