When Amrita decides to have her memory genetically improved, she hopes for a better life but as she starts to dream she soon realises that these dreams are memories of something sinister that happened when she was younger and, so, with the help of her new girlfriend, Dana, she pieces together her past and discovers truths more horrific than she'd ever imagined. A Better Version of Me centres on Amrita, a lonely and troubled girl, who only has her mum as a friend. Having spent her teenage years struggling at school, being subjected to bullying and not making friendships, she hopes that by having her memory genetically improved, she will be able to lead a more fulfilling life. Following her treatment, she immediately reaps the benefits of her improved memory and, to begin with, it appears as if Amrita might be getting all she dreamed of.

happiness. it's almost as difficult as trying to summarise a whole book in just a few lines. so, where do we begin? ara agassi. 17 year old girl who coped with the shitty life built for her by drugs, cigarettes and sex, yet somehow she still felt completely empty. all she wanted was to be happy... or die. or better yet, not exist. all she ever wanted was to feel loved, whole, not much to ask for, right? wrong. love, peace and all that other bullshit was impossible for her. how are you supposed to recover from your past when it seems to define you? with a little help? what happens when that help is from a childhood friend who turns ara's world upside down. would that, maybe, push her off the edge?
